OBITUARY Raymond W. Mooney December 14, 1920 – November 18, 2018 Raymond W. Mooney, age 97 of Clearwater, FL, formerly of Gilsum, NH passed away peacefully with his beloved daughters by his side. He was born in Concord, MA on December 14, 1920, and lived in Maynard, MA, Canterbury, NH, and graduated from Rochester, NH High School. He resided in Gilsum, NH with his wife Louise for many years before moving to Keene in 1984.
Ray and Louise were married on June 29, 1957 in Gilsum and later renewed their vows at St. Bernard Church in Keene. He lovingly cared for Louise until her death on January 24, 2000. He eventually moved back to Gilsum and then to Clearwater, FL to live with his two daughters for the remainder of his life.
Raymond is predeceased by his parents: James H. and Almira (Mayberry) Mooney; wife: Louise (Roberts) Mooney; brothers: Ronald, Warren, William, Robert and James Mooney; sisters: Norine Allen, Mary Knight, Priscilla Mills, Corinthia Mooney; and partner: Betty Pratt. Raymond is survived by his two daughters: Marie Blackstock and Deborah Goodell of Clearwarter, FL; son: Harold Matson of Bethesda, MD; sisters: June Houle of Laconia, NH and Kathleen (Chris) Sweeney of Pompano Beach, FL; grandchildren: Tracey Goodell of Brattleboro, VT, Philip Goodell III of Hinsdale, NH, Janel Dolan of Toledo, OH, Tahneen (Andrew) Greenslit of Southern Pines, NC, Heather (Steve) Huff of Whispering Pines, NC, Jeremy (Brandi) Goodell of Moundville, MO; great-grandchildren: Kelley Brown, Ryan Flenner, Jared Goodell, Brianna Blodgett, Jailyn, Janessa, Jessamyn, and Joslyn Dolan, Ella and Ariana Greenslit, Hadley and James Huff, and Sumner Goodell; five great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Raymond was a World War II Veteran and served in Boston, MA from 1942 to 1946.
He was a lifetime member of the Gilsum American Legion Post #85 holding every Officer position except for Chaplin. Ray was also an avid card player both at the American Legion and playing Skip-Bo at home with his brother, family, and friends. Ray worked in many woolen mills in the area and retired from Sprague and Carlton after 33 years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at St. Margaret Mary Church, 33 Arch Street, Keene, NH. Family and friends are invited to call at Fletcher Funeral Home, 33 Marlboro Street, Keene, NH on Friday, November 30, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Burial will take place in the spring at Centennial Cemetery in Gilsum, NH.
