Rebecca “Becky” Barksdale Haymes known as Babe to family and friends died on Monday, April 29, 2019 at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center after being in declining health for several months. Born July 25, 1925 in Pittsylvania County, daughter of the late Herschel G. and Ella Low Barksdale. She lived all of her life in the Danville area where she was employed for many years by L. Herman/Thalhimers décor gift shop and for 21 years, Tultex Co. retail division.

She was married to Paul Clyde Haymes who died on November 22, 1987. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by her son, Herschel Phillip Haymes who died on July 21, 1989 and her sister, Pauline B. Manthey. Survivors include, daughter, Joy H. Thompson and husband Neal of Danville, VA; granddaughters, Kim T. Lewis and husband Jay of Danville, VA, and Cindy Long and husband Kevin of Roxboro, NC; great grandsons, Josh Lewis and wife Whitney of TN, Justin Lewis of Danville, and Spencer Boyd of Raleigh; and a great great grandson, Holden Lewis of TN.

A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Gary Tucker officiating. Interment will follow in the cemetery. The family will be at the residence of her daughter, Joy Thompson, 214 April Lane, Danville, VA 24540.
