Reino Laine, 91, Two Harbors, died Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center. Reino was born on April 3, 1927 to John and Lydia (Salmi) Laine in Automba Township, in rural Carlton County where he grew up and attended school. After returning from the military, he married Alice Illikainen on October 13, 1949 and they moved to Two Harbors.

While raising their family in Silver Creek, Reino worked for the DM&IR Railroad in the track department and later on the ore docks for many years. After retirement, Reino enjoyed traveling with Alice in their motorhome, fishing, long walks, and Saturday sauna. Reino was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice; son, William Illikainen; granddaughter, Faith Laine; siblings, Lillian, Helen, Ed, and Emil.

He is survived by his children, Carol Kiehn of Clear Lake, MN, Douglas (Denise) Laine of Duluth, Shirley Ness of Two Harbors, Lois (Steve Blettner) Laine of Two Harbors, Allan (Cindy) Laine of Two Harbors, and Daniel (Jodi) Laine of Two Harbors; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; brother Roy (Peg) Laine of East Bethel; and sister, Aili Merrill of Cloquet. Private graveside services and burial will be in Silver Creek Cemetery.
