Michael “Mike” J. Visek, age 61, passed on Sunday, February 24, 2019, doing what he enjoyed most, spending quality time with his family while on vacation. He was born October 17, 1957 in Washington, D.C., to Franklin and Jean Visek and was the eldest sibling to Dale, Patricia, and Steven. Mike’s presence in life was big and bold.

He served an honorable 21 years in the U.S. Army. After retirement, he continued serving his country as a mobilization specialist with the U.S. Army Forces Command at Fort Bragg, N.C. In the office, his skilled leadership and infectious, social personality were second to none. He was a popular and gregarious man.

Mike was known for his quick wit, charming smile, charismatic spirit, and incredibly cheerful and hearty laugh. Quite simply, he was a fun man to be around. Whether narrating the childhood mischief and trouble he and his brother Dale would cause, or recounting the fond, cherished memories he made cruising the ocean with his wife, brother, sister, and in-laws, golfing among alligators in Cancun with his daughter, and being the best man in his son’s wedding – his uncanny ability to tell a story captivated the attention and hearts of many.

We will miss hanging on his every last word. No doubt shaped by his years of armed service, he was a man of great precision and attention to detail – even while playing cards. Nothing got past Mike.

A dedicated soldier to his country, above all, Mike was a family man – a devoted and loving husband for 38 years to his wife, Melissa; a very proud father of Amanda and Michael and godfather to John and Derek; a gleeful, joyous grandpa to Madison and Bryson; a protective big brother to his three siblings; a cool uncle to Katie, Kevin, Paul, Meghan, Anthony, Abigail, and Kristin; a caring father-in-law to Kimberly; and a fun-loving brother-in-law to Terry, Patricia, and Jessica – all of whom he is survived by. Mike lived fully, each and every day. Our lives will never be the same without him, though continually blessed because of him.

We will hold him, forever, in our hearts.
