Obituary for Rev. Dale L. Mitchell Dale Luverne Mitchell, 86, of Norton Shores, entered into Heaven on Friday, June 22, 2018, after a 18-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born August 21, 1931 to Morris and Elsie Mitchell in Palo Alto County, IA.

He grew up in Cylinder, IA and graduated from Fenton High School. After receiving his Associate’s degree from Waldorf College, Forest City, IA, he graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD in 1955 and Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN in 1959. While he was at Waldorf College, he met his wife, Mary Louise Olsen, and they were married January 2, 1954.

Dale was ordained as a minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELC) in 1959. He tirelessly and faithfully served ten churches in six parishes in North Dakota, Michigan and Iowa, for 38 years, before retiring to Muskegon in 1997. Dale loved Tiger baseball, refinishing furniture, gardening, and golfing.

In his retirement, he was a member of the Partners in Parkinson’s support group, the Muskegon Lions Club, the Muskegon Garden Club, and was a docent for the Hackley-Hume House, until his health forced him to retire a second time. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Elsie Mitchell, sisters Arlene Haller and Marie Silrum, brothers-in-law Arnold Haller, Edwin Silrum and Irving Davidson. He is survived by Mary, his wife of 64 years, a sister, Elaine Davidson, sons Mark (Kathy) Mitchell of Norton Shores, MI, Timothy (Pamela) Mitchell of Traverse City, MI, Jonathan (Lori) Mitchell of Littleton, CO, Nathan (Jennifer) Mitchell of Falls Church, VA, and a daughter Annette (Julia Wood) Mitchell of Pinellas Park, FL.

Also surviving are his granddaughters Raquel (Derek) Huffman, Lorin (Matthew) Karr, Elizabeth Mitchell, Hillary and Annika Mitchell, grandsons , Peter (Emily), David and Matthew Mitchell, and three great-grandchildren: Mary and Sarah Huffman and Garrison Karr. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1132 W. Southern Avenue, Muskegon, MI with Pastor Jane Mountain officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service (10:00 a.m.).
