Obituary for Rev. Marshall Dixon Jr. Reverend Marshall Dixon Jr., entered into eternal peace on July 21, 2018 at his Roxbury, Massachusetts residence with his daughter Monique and granddaughter Chandra at his bedside. Marshall Dixon Jr., one of thirteen children was born on September 11, 1935, the son of the late Marshall Dixon Sr., and Irma Robinson Dixon.
He relocated from his birthplace of Edison, Georgia after graduating from A. Spight High School to Miami, Florida where he met his former wife Blanche Dixon. They later relocated to Boston, Massachusetts in the late 50’s to care for his grandmother. Reverend Dixon developed a passion to assist people early on while working as a server at the Omni Parker House, he also chaperoned customers; driving for the Red and White Taxi Cab Company, as well as for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, as a street motorcar person until his retirement in 2001.
Marshall Jr., sought the word of God at the early age of nine giving his life to God in Spirit and in Truth, first being baptized in Georgia as a child in Stuckey Creek by the late Pastor Tobe Whithead, and in his adult life he rededicated himself at St. John Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a member, sang in the male chorus, attended bible study, and ministered as a Deacon under the late Reverend R.D. Kelley for many years. While serving the Lord in the sanctuary he found his companion, marrying Barbara Dixon. Hearing A Still Small Voice, Marshall Jr., soul said YES, and answered his call to ministry, as he and Barbara continued their journey together as servants of the Lord as Pastor and First Lady of The Lily of the Baptist Church for several years.
Thereafter Reverend Dixon fellowshipped with several church organizations until finding a place to serve and worship at the Inspirational Faith Church under the guidance of Reverend Whitlow, until he was officially passed the torch to act as the Shepherd to the sheep, becoming their Pastor. Marshall Jr., was also the Clergyman for the Black Minister Alliance, under the Dr. Larry Green, President and Pastor of Timothy Baptist Church. The Holy works of Marshall Jr., did not stop there, he praised the Lord and blessed us through song, singing with several groups including the Gospel Chorus and Male Chorus of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, with Clarence Thompson and the New Spirits of Boston, and was known notably for his smooth baritone, “I have a telephone in my bosom call Him up anytime, Hello…….
I’m singing for Jesus”. In addition he formulated his own groups; the Holy Ghost Travelers, and most recently the Sons of God. Reverend Dixon, the gentle giant; with his angelic voice was a very benevolent and loving soul; he enjoyed life, and loved fishing with his auxiliary the Washington Maia Senior Program and Fishing Club, sports (Boston Redsoxs/New England Patriots), reading and spreading the Holy word of God, his family, friends, and his dogs Rhymes and Benji.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall Dixon Sr., and Irma Robinson Dixon, brothers Garfield Dixon, Rayfield Dixon, Claude Dixon Sr., John Dixon, sisters, Bernice Hall, Morrell Dixon and Joyce Felton. He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his loving wife Barbara Dixon, kind hearted former spouse Blanche Dixon (mother of Monique) loving daughter Pamela Saunders White, devoted daughter Monique Selina Dixon, and caring daughter Wallis Mills, adoring granddaughter Chandra Sadé Dixon. Loving step-children Deborah Lynn Bentley, Steven Davis, Rotand Rabouin, and Terry Davis, devoted brothers Allen Dixon, Walter Dixon (Julia), loving sisters Elizabeth Corbett, Wynell Hamilton, Gladys Dixon, neices, nephews, cousins, a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.
