Obituary for Rev. Michael D. Prevas Rev. Michael D. Prevas was born on May 27, 1952 in Waterloo, Iowa to Mary and Emmanuel Prevas.
As a teanager he and his brother Nick moved with their family to Chicago. Michael attended and graduated St. Joseph High School in Westchester, Illinois in 1970. In 1974 he graduated from Hellenic College in Brookline Massachusetts.
In 1983 he married Olga Garklavs and the same year had a son, Seraphim. Michael received a Masters of Divinity from St. Tikhon’s Seminary and was ordained to the holy priesthood in 1986. Fr.
Michael’s first parish was Holy Trinity Church in Catasauqua, Pennsylvania, where he served from 1986-1988. On returning to Chicago in 1988, he was assigned to Saints Peter and Paul Church until 1990, then became attached to Holy Trinity Cathedral for the remainder of his life. During the ‘90’s and early 2000’s Fr.
Michael served as a supply priest intermittently at St. Panteleimon Church in Summit, Illinois, and at the Orthodox Chapel at the Great Lakes Naval Base in North Chicago. Severe rheumatoid arthritis prevented Fr. Michael from actively serving in church during his later years.
Rev. Michael died on June 16th, 2018 after months of battling with cancer and other health complications. Fr.
Michael is survived by his son, Seraphim; former wife, Olga; brother, Nick (Tina); niece, Connie (Mario) Meza; and nephew, Priest Michael (Matia) Prevas. Lying in State Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Holy Trinity Cathedral, 1121 N. Leavitt St. 3:00 p.m. until Funeral Service at 6:00 p.m.. Divine Liturgy 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 20th, 2018 at Holy Trinity Cathedral with Funeral Services to follow.
