Reverend Robert’s Obituary The Reverend Robert H. “Bob” Bough, age 84, of West Bloomfield, passed away May 13, 2019. Bob was born November 23, 1934, in Highland Park, Michigan, the son of Henry and Ethel (née Taylor) Bough. Bob believed in God, a high power.
He believe nothing was a coincidence. Everyone and everything is connected. He believed in helping the poor, misplaced or abused children and the widowed.
He helped the addicted who were swallowed up in a dark hole who simply did not know how to see the light and their families torn by grief. He visited countless elderly and sick in their homes, hospitals and hospice care, he made them feel important and that they did matter in the world. As a young man born in Highland Park, Michigan and later moved to Perry, Michigan, he wanted more in his life.
During school at Perry High he enrolled in the ROTC and continued his service in the United States Navy. He knew giving service would assist in college funding for Michigan State University. He graduated in May 1958 and in June he married his soulmate Carolyn.
He worked for the Detroit Alcohol & Tobacco Commission and shortly after Bob and Carolyn headed to Ohio were he began seminary. After graduation in May 1967, he headed to Pontiac, Michigan pastoring his first church. Then to the next church in Vassar, Michigan and then to Madison Heights, Michigan.
In the early 70’s Bob took a counseling position at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan for Alcohol and Drug Abuse. In 1981 he helped open Henry Ford MapleGrove Center in West Bloomfield, Michigan a substance abuse facility. He later decided his clients needed more time than what was being given, and he left MapleGrove to begin his own private practice along with assisting with Samaritan Counseling Center at Nardin Park Methodist Church in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
He was very proud of his wife, Carolyn and his daughters Cynthia and Kathryn. Family time was most enjoyed on the lakes of Michigan, sailing, water-skiing with picnics. Some would think he took risks in his career changes or education, but a higher power was guiding him through his journey of life.
As pastor Rob Bell would say, “Love Wins”.
