Richard Daniel Cogan Jr., 67, of Melbourne, died peacefully at home Monday, February 4. He was born to the late Richard and Colleen Cogan on March 1, 1951 in Detroit, Michigan. Rick graduated from Howell High School in 1969 and received his BS in Chemistry with a minor in Math and Computer Science from Eastern Michigan University in 1982.

He married Barbara Cogan in 1983, living in Ramrod Key, FL, then Rochester, NH before finally settling down in Melbourne, FL in 1987. Rick began his career as a programmer for ProfitKey in 1982. He transitioned through several positions during his 34 years with the company, but was always involved in programming, even as Chief Technology Officer.

He retired in 2016 following his diagnosis of stage 4 melanoma and subsequent brain surgery that left him unable to continue the complex nature of his work. Rick loved playing volleyball with his friends, bicycling throughout Melbourne, and watching tennis and football. He also loved spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren.

Rick is survived by his wife Barbara Cogan and his children Terry Meadows, of Burbank, CA; Daniel Ackley, of Petaluma, CA; Kelly Martinez, of Charlotte, NC; and Patrick Cogan, of Columbia, SC. He is also survived by seven grandchildren. Anyone wishing to send the family a message or share a story is encouraged to make an entry in the guest book.
