Richard “Dick” Chadwick, age 87, of Greenville, formerly of Stanton, passed away early Friday morning, February 1, 2018 at home under the loving care of his family and Heartland Hospice. The son of Albert Stephen & Laura (Petersen) Chadwick, he was born on April 22, 1931 in Ionia. Following his graduation from Stanton Agricultural High School, he served in the Michigan National Guard.

He then served in the United States Army in the Korean Conflict and was a life member of the Lester J. Sitts Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5065 in Sheridan. On September 16, 1956, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Greenville, he married Joan Lavery and together they enjoyed over 62 years of marriage, raised three children, and were long-time members of Faith Lutheran Church in Sidney. Dick retired from the former Gibson Refrigerator Company and also farmed.

He and Joan enjoyed traveling and boating and had visited all 48 contiguous states in addition to Alaska and several Canadian provinces. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Betty & Cevil Brooks and Sally Chadwick; and siblings-in-law, Leland & Velma Lavery, and Beatrice & Carl Windover. Surviving are his wife, Joan Chadwick of Greenville; their children, Barbara & Wilbur Hall of Stanton, John & Loreen Chadwick of Coral, and Linda & Lewis Bolf of Stanton; five grandchildren, Alisha & Brian Brown, Steven & Alyse Hall, Eric & Sanja Bolf, Kyla & Margo Bolf, and Trevor Chadwick; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. on Monday at Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville. Honoring his wishes, private funeral services will take place at Faith Lutheran Church in Sidney. The Rev.

John Autio will officiate and burial, with military honors, will take place in the spring at South Sidney Cemetery. Instead of flowers, Richard would have preferred contributions in his memory to either the Friends of South Sidney Cemetery or to the Delores Halvorsen Memorial Food Pantry at the Lester J. Sitts Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5065 in Sheridan. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
