Old Orchard Beach –Richard “Dick” Potvin passed away December 5, 2018 at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough with his beloved wife Dot at his side. Born on May 15, 1938 in Woonsocket, RI to Raymond Potvin and the former Pauline (Boisvert) Potvin. Richard graduated from Old Orchard Beach High School in 1957.

He served in the US Air Force as an aircraft mechanic at the former Lincoln Air Force Base, Nebraska and Lajes Air Force Base in the Azores, Portugal. He married the former Dorothy “Dot” Marie Waterman from Groveville (Buxton) on April 30, 1966 and settled in Old Orchard Beach. Mr. Potvin worked for Roy & Pertreault Oil Company as a delivery driver for many years.

Richard was a family man and an avid sportsman. He enjoyed fishing and target shooting. His hobbies were collecting trading cards, electric trains and was an avid woodworker.

He enjoyed watching all sports, especially the Boston Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and the New England Patriots. He enjoyed the outdoors and kept a beautiful garden of potted flowers on his back deck. Richard and Dorothy traveled to Europe in 1996, visiting Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and France where he was able to speak his second language, French.

Accompanied by their daughter and her husband serving in the US Army, they stopped in Triberg, Germany and explored the Black Forest and numerous clock factories. Richard is survived by his wife of 52 years Dorothy; his son Jeffrey and his wife Lisa (Holden) Potvin of Windham; his daughter Paula Marie (Potvin) Reed and her husband Alan Reed of Gorham; and his four grandchildren Adam Reed, Nicholas Reed, Miranda Potvin and Kayla Potvin. A graveside service will be held Monday, December 10, 2018 at 11am at the Scarborough Memorial Cemetery, Old Blue Point Road, Scarborough with Monsignor Paul Stefanko officiating.

Millitary Honors will follow. Arrangements are in the care of Old Orchard Beach Funeral Home.
