OBITUARY Richard E. Naylon, Jr. October 27, 1950 – July 15, 2018 Long time Jimmy Mac’s restauranteur dies suddenly On Sunday, July 15, 2018, Richard Edwin Naylon, Jr. (Rick) passed away after an unexpected health event. Rick is survived by his daughter, Phoebe Michele Naylon, his son, Richard Edwin Naylon III and his mother, Nancy Henderson Naylon. Rick’s father, Richard E. Naylon, predeceased Rick in 2014.
In addition, Rick’s brothers and sisters include Maurice L. Naylon III (Jeanne); Nancy N. Murphy (Loyal); and Susan N. Cataudella (Thomas). Rick’s brother, Douglas Henderson Naylon, predeceased Rick in 2011. Rick also leaves behind the following nephews and nieces: Loyal Alexander Murphy (Brittany); Margaret Naylon Stewart (Ian); Maurice L. Naylon IV (Jenna); Douglas Henderson Naylon, Jr.; William Randall Murphy; Caroline Catherine Naylon and Courtney Elizabeth Cataudella.
Rick was also blessed with a great nephew and three great nieces. In addition to his family, Rick also enjoyed a very special bond with Jim and Carol Seifert, his children’s maternal grandparents. Rick was a born entrepreneur and was at the helm of many business ventures from the time he was a young man.
Some of the older folks reading this obituary will, no doubt, remember Riva’s pizzas. Most notable of Rick’s various business ventures was Jimmy Mac’s, the popular restaurant, bar and gathering place located at 555 Elmwood Avenue. Rick was the perfect host and made young and old feel right at home.
Jimmy Mac’s anchored the corner of Elmwood and Anderson for 25 years. After graduating from Williamsville High School, where Rick captained the varsity basketball team as a senior, Rick received his Bachelor of Science degree from the Thomas E. Clarkson College of Technology (now Clarkson University). After brief stints in accounting and industrial sales, Rick concluded that his true calling and passion was that of a restauranteur.
After closing Jimmy Mac’s, Rick established a career in the financial services industry where he focused primarily on structured settlements for those people whom have sustained an injury. Ever the professional, Rick studied at the University of Notre Dame where he completed the rigorous Certified Structured Settlement Consultant® (CSSC®) Professional Certification Program. The hallmark of Rick’s practice was his tireless efforts made on behalf of the accident victims he served and the attorneys whom provided legal representation for those accident victims.
Groups with which Rick was involved sought his counsel and his leadership skills throughout his life. He was president of his high school fraternity, Psi Upsilon and his college fraternity, Delta Upsilon. As a 40+ year member of the Saturn Club, Rick served on a variety of committees and also served on the Faculty, Saturn Club’s governing board.
Rick was an extraordinary father, son and brother. He was a kind and generous man and someone who quietly affected the lives of many people. This was done with very little fanfare or attention.
July 15, 2018 will forever be marked as a very sad day for the hundreds of people who had the good fortune to know Rick during his all too short life’s journey. A family service is being planned. At a later date, a memorial service will be held in celebration of Rick and the life that he led.
Details to be announced.
