Richard Earl Biggs was born November 24, 1929 to Earl Elkin and Lucille (Hipsher) Biggs and passed away December 27, 2018 in Danville, Illinois. He attended Cannon School and graduated in 1947 from Danville High School. He immediately began working for Inland Supply Company, a wholesale supplier of Plumbing and Heating contractor supplies.

On August 20, 1950 he married Janice Allen at Lincoln Methodist Church in Danville, Illinois. They enjoyed 68 years together. He is survived by his wife, Janice, daughters Cathy (David) Korwin, Durand, IL, Brenda (Chris) Goodwin, Newport News, VA, Grandchildren Weston Polaski, Bethany (Alex) Mihavics, Andrea Korwin, Carmen Korwin, Casey Stevens (Lou Ann) and Samantha Counts, as well as a brother-in-law Wayne (Sarah) Allen and many nieces and nephews and step nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by his father, Earl, and his mother, Lucille (Hipsher, Biggs) Fiock, Frank Fiock, his step father and his sister Kathryn Miller, brother-in-law Wendell Miller, sister-in-law, Lila Roy Hutton, brother-in-law, Oates Ray, stepsister Gladys Prescott, step-brother Paul Fiock and sister-in-law Eileen Fiock. In 1953, Richard was transferred to Inland’s Chicago Branch and he and Janice settled in Oak Park, IL. They joined Austin Blvd Christian Church in 1953 where he was an active member serving on the official board in various capacities for 41 years.

He bowled on the church bowling team for 35 years and also sang in the choir. He was an avid Indy 500 fan and attended all the races from 1952 through 2015 only missing 2 races. Due to ill health he gave up his Tower terrace tickets in 2015.

He also was a very good amateur photographer developing and printing his own pictures. When he and Janice retired, they returned to Danville and joined Central Christian Church in 1994. He delivered Meals on Wheels and also played Euchre at CHRIS for over 15 years.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Central Christian Church With Pastor Adam Harmon officiating. Private burial will be at a later date at West Lebanon Cemetery in West Lebanon, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory to Operation SMILE would be appreciated.
