OBITUARY Richard Everett Smith December 10, 1931 – November 28, 2018 Waynesville-Richard Everett Smith, 86 died on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at Maggie Valley Nursing and Rehab. Richard was born in Louisville, NY on December 10, 1931, to the late Edward and Amy Agnes La Brake Smith. Richard was a 26 year veteran of the US Air Force.

He served as a flight engineer beginning his service with the Berlin Airlift and ending with his service in Vietnam. Richard retired from the Air Force in 1972, working at various jobs until retirement age. He was a willing volunteer with Habitat for Humanity where he used his handyman skills.

Richard enjoyed collecting coins and reminiscing about his various past experiences. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by infant sister, Rita Smith; and two brothers, Ralph and Lincoln Smith. Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lois Sponaugle Smith; sons, John William Smith of Lake Charles, LA, Roger Peter (Jeannine) of Mechanicsburg, PA, Timothy Edward Smith of New Jersey, and Adam Richard Smith of Richmond, VA; daughter, Emily Elaine Tan (Jonathan) of Ventura, CA; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, December 1, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
