Richard J. “Dick” Goldstein, 84 years, of Indian River, Michigan, died peacefully on March 8, 2019 at Rose Arbor Hospice, Kalamazoo, Michigan, with his family at his side. Richard was born July 21, 1934 in Bronx, New York, the son of the late Rubin and Lillian (Rosenberg) Goldstein. He was a 1952 graduate of DeWitt Clinton High School.

He later attended New York University. Dick was a member of the New York National Guard, attaining the rank of Specialist. Dick worked for Lazare Kaplan International in the diamond industry for many years, retiring as the Midwest Regional Manager.

He was a member of the NRA as well as the Gemological Institute of America (G.I.A.) the former Orchard Hills Country Club in Bryan, Ohio and the Indian River Golf Club, Indian River, Michigan. Dick had an appreciation for guns, old western movies, Judge Judy and COPS. He enjoyed big band music, especially Glenn Miller.

He treasured the time he was able to spend with his girls and their families. Surviving are his three daughters, Wendy (Mike) Osgood, Jill (Leo) Torvinen and Lynn (Clint) Wagner; two stepdaughters, Sally (Roger) Tackett and Cindy (Dennis) Ames; six grandchildren, Ryan (Cassondra) Kovach, Cory (Brent Manter) Kovach, Bailey (Joseph) Besser, Lindy Torvinen, Carly (Tim Spitzer) Crocker and Nolan Wagner; six step grandchildren, Chad (Beth) Brace, Megan (Greg) Hart, Katie (Wilston) Cline, Andrea (John) Duvendack, Mara Osgood and Nichole Osgood; three great-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by lifelong friends, Bob and Barba Wahl and Rick and Jane Hancock.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 37 years, Phyllis Goldstein and one brother, Arthur Goldstein. Funeral services for Richard J. “Dick” Goldstein will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2019 in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan. Interment will follow in Fountain Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday, beginning at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions be made to Rose Arbor Hospice, 5473 Croyden Avenue, Kalamazoo, Michigan, 49009 or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
