Obituary for Richard John Graves Richard J. Graves Biography On Sunday, January 6, 2019, Richard John Graves succumbed to his illness and entered eternal rest. Richard was born on February 27, 1954 to Richard Kenneth and Helen Marie Graves. He grew up with three siblings, Sharon, Karen and John.

He was a fun-loving, energetic boy that grew to become a great man. He graduated from Southwest High School in 1972. Rick met his beautiful soulmate, Irene Burke in 1974 and would spend the rest of his days with her.

They were married on November 10, 1979 in a small ceremony. They would go on to have two beautiful daughters, Elizabeth Helen in 1981 and Catherine Irene in 1985. In 1990, Rick followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the Laclede Gas Company, where he worked for 23 years, retiring in 2013.

Rick was also known for his enthusiasm for his pride and joy: a 1996 Chevy Impala SS. He purchased the car in 2000 and over the years spent much of his spare time investing in its restoration and performance. He would often take the car to racetracks, car shows and even travel with other Impala lovers.

His garage is adorned with trophies, awards and photos of that journey. In addition to working full-time, Rick also took on a small business venture. He enjoyed lawn care and had a small group of clients whom he would provide services for over the years.

This business grew from one lawnmower and a couple of customers, to a trailer full of equipment and many clients. He was very proud of his accomplishments. Besides being a loving son, husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, he was also the world’s greatest grandfather.

Affectionately known as “Paw-Paw”, his grandchildren were the light of his life. Alyssa, Jesse, Sophia, Kyle, Maci, Kara and Marshall were all so lucky to have him as their “Paw-Paw”. Richard was a devoted, hard-working, family-oriented man.

Everything he did was to generously provide for his family. He gave them unwavering and unconditional love and support. Rick had a gift for making people laugh and was a joy to be around.

He will forever be remembered for his presence in the lives of those close to him. Richard has reunited with God, his parents and his sister Sharon. May he now be at peace.
