Richard John Wingertsahn, Sr. September 30, 1930 – January 21, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Upload Photo| View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Richard John Wingertsahn, Sr., 88, of Elizabeth Township, formerly of Knoxville and Mount Oliver, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2019. He was born September 30, 1930 in Pittsburgh and was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Monrean) Wingertsahn. Richard was retired from US Steel Homestead Works Carpentry Department, and was a US Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War.

For his service, he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Richard loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved being at the family’s camp in Marienville. He was a wonderful family man, teacher and mentor and was always ready to help anyone.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Miller) Wingertsahn, sons, Richard J. (Carol) Wingertsahn, Jr., of Dormont and Jerome A. Wingertsahn of West Mifflin, daughter, Susan M. (Russell) Savage of Cincinnati, OH, sisters, Elvina Voltz of Pittsburgh and Joan Weiss of Chino, CA. , grandchildren, Megan, Paula, R.J., Jake, and Ted, great-grandchildren, Eva and Jackson, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, William, Robert, Edward and Clair Wingertsahn, and sisters, Helen Smith, Marie Dominick, Elizabeth Marshall, Anna Mae Brenda, and Frances Hoffman.

Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life Service will be held in March. Arrangements are by the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. (412) 751-5000 Drew J. Gilbert, Director.
