OBITUARY Richard L. Schaefer June 2, 1934 – January 15, 2019 Richard L. Schaefer, age 84, of Hopkinton, NH passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2019. Richard was born June 2, 1934 in O’Fallon, IL to Laverne and Louise (Peach) Schaefer. Richard and his wife moved to NH from Burlington, MA in 1972.

He was employed by IBM for 22 years, then worked at Yankee Rentals in Laconia for 14 years before retiring. During his retirement, he worked at the State House in Concord. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard for four years.

He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal. Dick was an avid golfer at Dustin’s Country Club. He enjoyed reading the newspaper and completing crossword puzzles.

He also had a passion for gardening and playing cribbage. Richard was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Ralph Schaefer; his son, Richard Schaefer; and grandson, Joshua Schaefer. Members of Richard’s family include his wife of 63 years, Eleanor (Sears) Schaefer of Hopkinton; daughters, Karen Gange of Concord and Diane Fabri and her long-term partner Daniel Cajka, of Nashua; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Schafer of Hopkinton; grandchildren, Richard Schaefer, Jessamyn and her husband Donald Delude, Christopher and Michael Gange, Niko Fabri and his fiancé, Brianna Labonte, and Gwendolyn Fabri; three incredible great grandchildren, Kyleigh, Dreesen, and Griffin Delude; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 158 Old W. Hopkinton Road, Henniker, NH, on Monday, January 21, 2019 at 11am. A spring burial will be scheduled at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Richard’s name to the Hopkinton Firefighters Association.
