Richard LaMont Telford; who was born on August 16, 1939 in Lewiston, Cache County, Utah is now in heaven enjoying the reunion with those family members who preceded him in death- his parents; Brigham H and Elva Henrietta LaMont Telford; his father-in-law Ferrell Marvin Everett, his older sister Diane, and his great grandson Payden Roger Stephens and his loving dog Daisy. Dad was surrounded by his loving family as he peacefully passed on from this world. Our dearest husband, dad, grandpa, uncle, brother, and friend slipped away into a “better world” in Ponchatoula, Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana.
Our sorrow at his parting is matched only by the joy with which we know he was received by loved ones eagerly awaiting his arrival there! Richard was very proud of his family heritage. He is survived by his sisters Marlene Lundahl (Provo, UT), Ann (David) Kunze and Lynne (Douglas) Roper (both of Preston, ID).
Richard was married and later divorced to Ann Whitman, and Evelyn Chambers Lee (deceased). He was raised on a farm located in Richmond, Cache County, Utah where he learned the value of hard work that stayed with him his whole life and he passed on those traits to his children. Dad proudly served our country in the United States Navy in San Diego, CA.
He was honorably discharged after a back injury and was required to return to civilian life. Richard and his wife Johnnie Claire of 39 years are owners of Telford Design. The company he built is one of the nation’s leading providers of airport equipment.
Telford products are currently being used nationwide in large airports such as LAX and JFK. One of his many accomplishment was that he designed and has 2 US patents on the Airport Side Shift Cabs and Conveyor Belt Baggage Chute. Dad was a successful mechanical and electrical engineer.
He purchased a Commercial & Residential Powder Coating business at the young age of 70. He often told his children to “enjoy your work while you can” as he obtained great joy from his career. As a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend we each looked to him for guidance.
We will miss his steady heart and helping hands. Grandpa was always willing take everyone out to a restaurant and listen to the latest news on his family. He is a singularly good man and will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
His legacy lives on with his family; his loving and devoted wife Johnnie Claire; his children; Kimberly (Brent) Christenson (Bountiful, UT), Angie White (Tremonton, UT), Angie (Bryan) Addison (Laplace, LA), Jerry Edward Elliott (Hammond, LA), Loril (Edward) Stephens (Logan UT), Leesa (Allen) Wolfe (Orem, UT), Mitchell Glen (Davy) Telford (Smithfield, UT), and Lincoln William (Krystyna) Telford (Tomrefjord, Norway); and grandchildren Nathan Edward (Anne) Stephens, Lindsey (Ryan) Nelson, Jake (Ashley) Roderick Stephens, and Caitlynn (Kevin) Lacy, Emily (Crystal) Addison, Danielle Elliott, Brigham Richard Telford, Logan Robert Telford, Christopher Jon and Jacob Blayney White, Kent and Nicole Christenson, and great-grandchildren Brock Nathan and Emma Stephens, Adelaide and Jake Ryker Nelson, Dustin Jake and Jayce Roderick Stephens, Atticus and Baylor Fitch and one on the way. He will be greatly missed by his dogs LitBit and Emma who were always by his side – with front row seats on the golf cart next to dad. We will miss his warm smile, laughter, his love of teasing us tirelessly, and his stories.
We are happy for the time we were able to spend with him over the years learning from him and being on the various job site locations where we were able to see him in action using his talents, quick creative mind, and his special out going way of conversing with people from all walks of life. A Family & Friend visitation was held on February 22, at the Chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home in Hammond. LA.
