Obituary for Richard R Beck Richard Rollin Beck, 93, of Minden, passed away on Friday, March 30, 2018 at the Grand Island VA Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at the First Christian Church in Minden with the Rev. Jim Gordon officiating.

Interment will be held following services at the Minden Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the Minden American Legion Post #94 and Heartwell Veteran’s of Foreign Wars in conjunction with the United States Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the Craig Funeral Home in Minden. Richard was born on May 14, 1924 in rural Kearney County to Harry J. and Mabel L. (Rasmussen) Beck.

He attended school in Minden, where he graduated with the Minden High School class of 1941. Richard honorably served his country with the United States Army during World War II. Following his military service, he attended one semester of technical school at Milford.

On August 30, 1947, he was united in marriage to Betty L. Berger in Colorado Springs, CO and to this union, three sons were born: Robert L., Gary R. and John S. Beck. The family made their home east of Minden where Richard farmed and raised livestock for many years. In 1984, they purchased a house and moved into Minden.

He continued to help with the family farming operation up until his passing. Richard was a member of the First Christian Church in Minden. His hobbies included square dancing, playing card games, especially Some-R-Set (where he often enjoyed over-bidding but usually made it), raising calves, watching various sporting events, spending time with his family and attending his children and grandchildren’s games and other activities.

Richard also enjoyed going for a morning walk each day. Above all else in life, Richard made sure that Betty came first. He provided unfailing love and care to her throughout more than 70 years of marriage.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Betty Beck of Mt. Carmel Home in Kearney; sons, Robert Beck and wife Cheryl of Greencastle, IN, Gary Beck and wife Kathy of Minden and John Beck and wife Connie of Minden; granddaughters, Melanie Beck of Kearney and Erika Beck and fiancé, Ian Muthart of Lincoln, NE; step-grandchildren, Shane Funk and wife Rebecka of Spearfish, SD, Jason Funk and wife Meggin of Rushville, NE, Aaron Funk and wife Sarah of Woodstock, GA and Zachary Funk of Omaha, NE; 10 step-great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-great-grandchildren; brother, Hilly Beck and wife Nadine of Springfield, MO, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Archie, Donald and Marshall Beck.
