OBITUARY Richard “Rich” L Hankins June 21, 1948 – December 29, 2018 Richard L. Hankins, 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines. A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 6 p.m. at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with a visitation starting at 4 p.m. until the time of the service. Rich was born June 21, 1948 in Kansas City, MO to Dale and Ethel (Owens) Hankins.

He was a 1968 graduate of Valley High School in West Des Moines and went on to be a over the road truck driver. Rich loved to drive, whether it was trucks, school buses or cabs. He had the uncanny ability to get anyone unlost from anywhere with a simple phone call.

Rich was a laid back kind of guy and didn’t take things to seriously and loved to crack jokes. He was a very social person and never met a stranger. Rich enjoyed golfing, fishing, being a pool shark, cheering on the Hawkeyes, and a good breakfast.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother and will be missed dearly by all who loved him. Rich is survived by his wife, Tara; daughter, Michelle (Craig) Harwood; step-daughters, Tonya Knudsen and April Fisher; grandkids, Harlie and Hank; step-grandkids, Malichi, Landin, Rylin, Tysin and Micha; sister, Cathy Wilson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim; and brother-in-law, Rod Wilson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be directed to the Taylor Hospice House of the American Heart Association, Iowa Chapter.
