Obituary for Richard “Rick” J. Crowley Richard J. (Rick) Crowley of Bonita Springs, Florida on November 30, 2018. Son of the late Frederick and Florence Crowley. Survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda Christine (nee Pritchard).

Also survived by nieces and nephews, Linda Horger (John), Frederick Thomas Crowley (Nelle), Pamela Carter (Anthony), Michele Giffin (Robert) and Robert Crowley. A memorial service to celebrate his life will take place at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Bonita Beach Road, Bonita Springs, Florida on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Rick was born and raised in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia Pennsylvania and upon graduation from Germantown High School, joined the US Marine Corps.

After receiving a medical discharge, he hitchhiked through the United States, Mexico, Canada and Alaska. He made a promise to himself that someday he would hitchhike around the world. He kept that promise.

Rick attended Drexel University and after graduation, he joined the Atlantic Refining working on oil tankers to get a bankroll for his travels. He was a seaman on deck and travelled to Texas and Venezuela for a period of one year. He started his world travels by taking a ship to England.

His travels around the world took four years. He worked in several countries including England and South Africa. He also found work on a Swedish ship that needed crew.

He hitchhiked all over Europe and fox hunted in England and Ireland. He worked in South Africa for the Drakkensburg Garden Hotel. He was the entertainment officer.

His travels then continued through India, Pakistan, Kashmir, Singapore, and Australia where he worked 1500 feet underground mining gold. Then on to New Zealand and then work on a Japanese timber ship sailing to Japan. Rick left Japan on an American ship which took him back to the United States.

Rick worked for several companies in their sales department and retired from Hajoca Corporation. He was an active YMCA member and belonged to the Rocky Run YMCA. He was also an avid reader and spent time at the Middletown Library in Lima PA.

He moved to Bonita Springs, Florida in July 2014 and enjoyed the beach and all that SW Florida has to offer.
