A long time ago (1956) in a galaxy far, far away (Akron, Ohio) Richard Shomo was transported to Earth by two loving parents: Rudy Shomo and Faye Booth. Richard grew up in Barbour County, West Virginia where he rode dirt bikes with his family, read science fiction, listened to progressive rock, and fought to keep his hair long. After leaving school, Rich moved to the Hudson Valley in New York and began working at IBM.

Rich was at IBM for over 40 years, working his way from a System Test Technician to a Senior Manager, earning a U.S. patent and Golden Circle leadership award along the way. In his spare time, he loved being with his family and friends, watching sci-fi movies, riding motorcycles and electric bikes, taking walks with his team at work, and collecting robots. He was a husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and innovator – and he never did cut off his long hair.

After 62 years, Rich returned to the cosmos. He took his place in the sky as a guiding star for his loved ones, much as he had done in life. You can see him from the dark side of the moon.

Richard is survived by innumerable friends and colleagues as well as a family of loving robots. Loving Wife Robot Nancy Shomo, Microbots Kimberly Shomo, Joshua and Sarah Shomo, John and Cristine DiVenere, and Adam and Gizella DiVenere. Nanobots Lincoln, Adam, Alexa, and Lillian DiVenere, and Graeme Shomo.

Sibling Robots Vickie Meadows, Christy Costakis, Tiffany Ware, Stephen and Stephanie Shomo, and Jojo Shay. A Celebration of Rich’s life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in his name to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation www.
