Richard’s Obituary SHELTON: Richard M. Soares, age 76, peacefully entered into eternal rest on May 13, 2019, at CT Hospice in Branford. He was the beloved husband of Lois M. Bancroft Soares. Mr. Soares was born in Bridgeport on February 19, 1943, son of the late Emmanuel and Antoinette Centrella Soares.

He graduated from Notre Dame High School in Fairfield where he excelled as a quarterback on the gridiron and was inducted into their Hall of Fame. He later went on to play football for and graduate from the University of Dayton. Richard was employed as a Government Auditor for the U.S. Department of Defense until his retirement in 2015.

He was an avid bowler at Nutmeg Bowl in Fairfield and enjoyed playing golf. In addition to his wife Lois, he leaves to cherish his memory, daughters, Lorraine Silverstein (William) and Lisa Kozlowski (Peter) of Shelton, sisters, Dolores Kanios and Amelia Soares of Charlotte, VT, grandchildren, Rachel, Matthew and Justin Silverstein, Alexander, Zachary and Melanie Kozlowski and Jonathon, Nathaniel and Emily Soares, daughter-in-law, Lori Soares of North Haven and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Richard Soares, a brother, Edward Soares and sisters, Anna Powers and Marie Gravel.

Per Richard’s request, his funeral service and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Richard’s name may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405. The SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia has been privileged with the arrangements.
