Obituary for Richard W. “Dick” Kantner Richard W. “Dick” Kantner, of Penn, passed away Sunday December 23, 2018, nine days before his 80th birthday, at home surrounded by family. He was born January 1, 1939 in Sharon, a son of the late Walter W. and Ruth V. (Meyer) Kantner and was also preceded in death by his former wife Nancy Kantner. Dick was an Air Force veteran and retired computer engineer for NCR, Irwin, and then Storage Technology.
He was a member of Manor Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and former Deacon. He was a member of Shidle Lodge No. 601, Free and Accepted Masons, Irwin, and volunteered at the Westmoreland County Food Bank monthly food distribution in Manor.
He enjoyed computers, carpentry, remodeling, and generally keeping himself busy. He is survived by his wife Jean (George) Kantner; his children Vicki (Joseph) Kubicek of Monroeville, Patti (Jim) Burchfield of Washington, Scott Kantner (Karen Luft) of Irwin, Timothy (Tina) Kantner of Manor, and Robyn (Todd) Bigler and Brenda (Todd) Rubright both of McCullough; his grandchildren Elizabeth and Alexander Kubicek, Zachary (Chelsea), Sarah, Alyssa, Ashton, and Logan Kantner, Michael (Marla) and Daniel Burchfield, Melanie (Ryan) Shank, Courtney and Frank Rubright, and Lexi, Tyler, and Travis Luft; siblings, Carole (Chuck) Appleby of Springfield, OH, and Ted (Sandy) Kantner of Southpointe; also nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the William Snyder Funeral Home 521 Main Street, Irwin, 724-863-1200.
A funeral service will be held at Noon Friday in Manor Presbyterian Church with Pastor Thomas Holmes officiating. Interment with Air Force honors will follow in Brush Creek Cemetery. Shidle Lodge will hold a masonic funeral service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
