Richard “Dick” Meador, 83, of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2018. He was born April 13, 1935 in Henderson, Kentucky, son of the late Richard and Opal (Williams) Meador. Dick was a veteran of the US Army.

He was a member of the Lawrenceburg American Legion and attended Bright Christian Church. His coaching career spanned 21 years in total, with stops at Bicknell, North Knox, Fort Wayne North and Lawrenceburg where he went 137-20-2, earning a spot in Indiana Football Hall of Fame in 1989. Coach Meador is known best for leading Lawrenceburg High School to win the IHSAA Football State Championship in 1975 and 1978.

During his 12 seasons at Lawrenceburg, he led the Tigers to eight undefeated seasons and a 59-game winning streak. The Tigers also won the EIAC Championship 11 times. Coach Meador is also credited as being one of the trailblazers for developing players and programs through a year-round strength and conditioning program that you see many schools use today.

His love for strength training went far beyond coaching. He was the owner of Meador’s Fitness Center which he sold in 2006. He is survived by his loving wife, Zoe Meador; daughter, Michelle (husband Butch) Fette of Sunman, IN, Bonnie (Husband Alfie) Galle of Guilford, IN; 8 grandchildren: Justin, Kendal, Hannah, Chase, Megan, Brandon, Bryan, Amanda; and 3 great grandchildren, Sutton, Mavis and Braylon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Opal Meador. Family and friends will be received on Saturday, June 30, 2018 from 9-11 am at the Lawrenceburg High School Gym. Funeral services will be held at Lawrenceburg High School Gym, Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 11 am, with Pastor Jeff Stone officiating.

Interment will follow in the Greendale Cemetery, Greendale, Indiana. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Meador Traditions Scholarship Fund, or Church of Donor’s Choice. To send flowers or a remembrance gift to the family of Richard Meador, please visit our Tribute Store.
