Rick went to be with his beloved family in heaven June 25th, 2018 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC. After a courageous battle with cancer. Richard Miller was born in Highland Falls, NY on December 11th 1953 to his beloved parents Ross and Sarah Miller.

Rick went on to marry Christy Smith and they had two children Ashley Miller and Joshua Miller. Rick worked at Charlotte Treatment Center, Amethyst, and later The Mecklenburg County Jail.

He was passionately devoted in helping people reach sobriety and recovery. His commitment to helping people went beyond his work life, as he spent many years coaching his daughter, and hundreds of others on the softball field. Many of his softball players were able to receive college athletic scholarships.

“Coach Rick” was able to touch so many lives. Later on in his career, Rick founded and owned Mountain Island Promotions, Inc. A promotional product company in Charlotte, N.C. that services clients throughout the Carolinas and beyond. He operated his business with the highest level of integrity and honesty.

Rick had a strong passion for his business and considered his clients as family. Rick was a devoted father, friend, and family member. Rick was pre-deceased by his grandparents Ross Miller Sr. and Elma Jackson Miller, and Robert Costner and Lula Lyles Costner, mother and father Ross and Sarah Miller, and his wife Christy Miller.

Survivors include his beloved daughter Ashley Miller and partner Shay Wilson, his beloved son Joshua Miller and Joshua’s wife Emily Miller. In Lieu of flowers and to continue the impact of a life of sobriety and recovery — the Miller family has asked for memorials to be made to The Dilworth Center 2240 Park Road Charlotte, NC 28203.
