Obituary for Rita Kupyn Print Rita E. Kupyn, age 94, died in the early morning on Thursday, January 31, 2019 in Brighton Gardens, a senior living community Middletown, NJ. She was born in Dublin, Ireland on October 19, 1924 to Patrick Suttlehan and Mary Fitzpatrick and immigrated to the Marble Hill section of New York, N.Y. at the age of 2. She was educated in Cathedral High School in New York, Mt.

Saint Michaels College in NY, and obtained a Masters Degree in Social Work from Fordham University. Upon graduation from Fordham, she began her career in Social Work at Catholic Charities. She remained employed at Catholic Charities until her retirement in 1994.

While at Catholic Charities, she helped countless individuals and families navigate through the challenging parts of their lives. While employed at Catholic Charities, she met her husband and life partner, John. They were married for 62 years until John’s death in 2017.

Rita is lovingly remembered by her two sons and their spouses John and Laurie Kupyn and Robert and Carol Kupyn, as well as 4 grandchildren, John, Kerin, Mackenzie, and Ryan. Rita will also be remembered by her friends and family as a kind and caring individual who loved conversation and who took a genuine interest in the well being of others. She never really let go of her social worker roots and was always ready with words of encouragement, advice or compassion.
