Rita Wengrow Hussey, 71, of Lincolnton, Georgia, passed away on November 14, 2018, at AU Medical Center in Augusta. Rita was the daughter of the late A.H. Wengrow and the late Ettie Rose Shatz Wengrow, and was also preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Wanda Wengrow. She was born in Washington, Georgia, but was a native of Lincoln County.

She graduated from Lincoln County High School in 1965, attended Georgia Southern College and attended Thomson Tech in 1997 for her certification of EMT-1 and received her Georgia license and National Registry for EMT-1 in 1998. She started working part-time for Lincoln County OES in 1998 and was hired on full time in 2000. While there she became CPR/First Aid instructor and was on the Rescue, Red Cross Disaster team for Lincoln County.

She received the EMT of the Year award in January 2004 and retired from LC OES in 2013 with 15 and ½ years of service. Rita was a very active member of the American Legion Auxiliary since she was born and had held all offices in both the Unit and District departments. She was the “Mom” for the Sons of the American Legion Squadron at Post 194 Lincolnton.

Rita was a member and director of Lincolnton/Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce and represented Goldman & Wengrow Clothing Store as secretary. When her dad passed away in 2007, she started helping Michael more in the store and loved every minute of it! When growing up, she loved going to the store on Saturday mornings to help her dad.

Her survivors are her daughter, Kim Hussey Howard and husband Daniel, Pikeville, NC, her brothers, Joe Wengrow(Debbie),Michael Wengrow(Heather), and Andy Wengrow(Teresa) her grandchildren, AndreAnna and Jarrett Howard and niece, Ashley Crawford, nephew, Eric Wengrow(Ansley) and great nephews, Abraham Crawford and Cullen Wengrow. A graveside service is planned for Saturday, November 17, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at the Lincolnton City Cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service.
