Middletown- Robert Alphonso Powell Sr. of Middletown passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 72. Mr. Powell was born in Dover, DE, the son of the late James Steward and Eleanor (Powell) Watson.

He owned his construction business as a carpenter for many years. Mr. Powell enjoyed carpentry, drag racing, and motorcycle riding. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Patsy Benson; brother, Tony Watson; brother, Lloyd Watson.

He is survived by a son, Kevin Williams (Renee) of Milford; daughter, Renee Hudson (Alvin) of Harrington, daughter; Cheryl Burton (Ronald) of Clayton; and a son, Robert A. Powell Jr. (Patricia) of Middletown and was a loving grandfather to six grandkids; brothers and sisters; Wendell Watson Sr., Dougie Watson, Getha Watson, Joyce Ann Watson and Lavern Watson. Mr. Powell was also survived by a stepdaughter, Mechelle Gassaway of New Castle and a longtime Lady friend Bessie Crain of Dover. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at the Pippin Funeral Home 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, DE where a viewing will also be held on Monday evening, January 21, 2019 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
