Robert Bob E Burby , April 20, 1933 — December 23, 2018

Newport, NH: Robert “Bob” E. Burby, 85, died peacefully and surrounded by family on December 23, 2018 at the White River Junction, VT VA Hospital. Bob was born on April 20, 1933 in Lebanon, NH to the late Earl and Rena Burby. He grew up in Lebanon and lived there most of his life before moving to Newport in his later years.

He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War before working at Split Ballbearing/Timken Aerospace for 33 years as a machinist and draftsman. Bob was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and served on the Board of Directors at the Newport Senior Center. He was also very active with the American Legion and in local government.

Bob liked to golf, bowl, paint, and was riding his motorcycle until just a couple of years ago. Bob was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Helga Burby. Surviving family members include his wife, Donna Hemingway, children, Thomas Burby and his wife, Judy, of North Carolina, Mike Hemingway and his wife, Linda, of Newport, Dodi Violette and her husband, Dani, of Newport, granddaughter, Abigail Meghan Burby, other grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and great friends, Sebby and Audrey.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society. Friends may call on the family from 5 to 6 PM on Friday, December 28, 2018 at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Newport, NH. A memorial service will be held at 6 PM that night at the funeral home.

Private burial will be in Lebanon, NH.
