Robert’s Obituary On May 21, Bob Marchen went to be with the Lord. For most of his 88 years, he lived a full and active life. Born in Chicago, “Bobby” was raised there by his parents and 6 older brothers and sisters.

He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. Upon his return to Chicago, he married his first wife, Lois, and they had 2 wonderful sons, Brian & Keith. As a salesman, Bob & his family lived and travelled throughout the Midwest, but came back home to the Chicago area in the late 60’s and settled in Schaumburg.

Although he and Lois divorced, he was devoted to his sons, and they to him. They loved golfing, hiking, bowling and playing tennis together, as well as following the Bears and attending White Sox games. He married the love of his life, Linda in 1991.

They enjoyed travelling the US and the world together, and spending time, birthday dinners, and holidays with family. He took pride in his sons, the daughters-in-law they gave him – Cynthia & Karen, and in his only grandchild Nate. Bob worked hard during his professional life, but was always concerned that his children worked too hard.

He was ecstatic to attend a victorious White Sox World Series Game, and loved to poke fun at his daughter-in-law, the Cubs fan. Bob’s travels ended after a stroke in 2009, but his love for his wife and family was strengthened, as was their devotion to him. After a lovely 88th birthday celebration in January, he was diagnosed with cancer in March.

Although he became increasingly frail, he kept his wits, and his sense of humor, about him until the end. He will be missed so deeply by all who loved him, and nothing will fill the hole in their hearts. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Jack & Christine, and by his siblings Dorothy, Ellen, Fred, Dave, Edward and Alice.

He is survived by his beloved Linda, Brian & Karen, Keith & Cynthia, “Nate the Great,” as well as a niece & nephews, a great niece and nephew, and their families. Memorial visitation will be at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home in Schaumburg on Wednesday, May 29th from 9am until 11am, with a brief memorial service to follow.
