OBITUARY Robert Diers September 11, 1926 – November 10, 2018 Robert Diers of Tigard, Oregon passed away on November 10, 2018. He was 92. Bob Diers was born on September 11, 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri to Clara and Harold Diers.
He had six siblings – Oliver, Kenneth, Ralph and Arlene who proceeded him in death, and Virginia and Eugene who survive him. Robert served in the Navy during WWII on the USS Donner and was stationed in Seattle, Norfolk, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. After serving his country, he returned to St. Louis to attend Washington University on the GI bill where he studied accounting, receiving his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1952.
One of his fondest childhood memories was running from school to Sportsman’s Park to watch the St. Louis Browns American League baseball team. He and his friends were a part of the “Knot Hole Gang,” and they watched their favorite team, the Brownies for free in the bleacher seats. In 1947 he met the love of his life, Marie Hauff.
In 1950 they married at Christ Church Cathedral in St Louis and began their life together in South St Louis before moving across the river to Cahokia, Illinois. Six children followed. After working for several local St. Louis companies, Bob accepted a position in 1963 at Evans Products in Portland, Oregon and moved the family west, where he and Marie raised their family in Beaverton, Oregon.
In 1991, after 15 years of working at McCall Oil and Chemical, Bob Diers retired as the Corporate Tax Director. He lived his final years in Beaverton before moving to the community of King City Highlands in Tigard, Oregon. Bob and Marie have been members of St Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Beaverton since moving to Portland.
He was also a proud member of the Tax Executives Institute. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marie Ann Hauff Diers, and six children and their spouses: Deborah Diers, Elaine Playstead (Jack), Suzanne Diers, Bob Diers (Michelle), Stephen Diers (Bernadine) and Diana Kunstel (Don). In addition, he had seven grand-children, Matthew Danley (Tiffanie), Amanda Gerrard (Phillip), Timothy Danley, Stephanie Fisher (Evan), Tyson Diers (Annelise), Mitch Kunstel (Erin) and Madelyn Kunstel.
In recent years he was blessed with four great-grandchildren: Quinn Danley, Piper Gerrard, Caleb Fisher and Avery Fisher. A memorial service will be held at St Bartholomew’s Church (11265 SW Cabot, Beaverton OR) on Monday November 26th at 10:30am. A reception will follow the service in the church hall.
A private internment with military honors will take place at the Willamette National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in his name to Providence Hospice (10126 SW Parkway, Portland OR 97225), the wonderful people who made his last days peaceful.
