Mr. Robert Gaubatz, age 84, of Lulu, Florida passed away peacefully with his daughter by his side on May 9, 2019, at Ayers Health and Rehab Center in Trenton, FL. Bob was born in Belleville, IL to the late Sylvester and Loretta Cermak Gaubatz. In 1953, he proudly joined the United States Army and served with the military police special services.

Due to his athleticism, he was able to travel around to military bases playing baseball and basketball. Also while serving, he was sent to Germany to guard one of the military’s first atomic weapons. Bob played baseball for Southern Illinois University where he earned a master’s degree and served as a graduate student for Abe Martin, former Southern Illinois football coach.

Bob worked for 36 years in for the Department of Education until his retirement as a Federal Projects Director serving Hendry County. After retirement he worked as a veteran’s service officer in Lake Butler. He assisted veteran’s in getting services they needed and deserved.

Bob was a member of the American Legion Post 153 for 18 years and an active member with the VFW. He followed in his father’s footsteps to become a member of the Masonic Lodge. Bob served as a deacon at First Christian Church.

He also was an active member of Promise Keepers. Bob loved by his family and community and was proud to be a Union County resident. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 32 years, Betty Brannen Gaubatz and daughter, Carol Roney.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Lizbeth (James “Jimbo”) Croft of Lulu, FL; son, Gregg Gaubatz of San Francisco, CA; grandchildren, Jason (Syretta) Cypress, Billy (Angel) Marks, Malloree Roney, James William “Trace” Croft and Josie Croft; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and a host of loving family and friends. A service to honor Bob’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 14 at 2pm at the First Christian Church of Lake Butler, FL. Visitation will be Monday, May 13 from 6pm – 8pm at Archer Funeral Home.

He will be interred at Dekle Cemetery. Brother Art Peterson will officiate the services. Arrangements are under the care and direction of ARCHER FUNERAL HOME.
