Celebration of Life: 1:30 pm, Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Christ Church, 5301 Altamesa Blvd. , Fort Worth, Texas.

Visitation will precede the service at 12:30 pm, at Christ Church. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pleasant Hills Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1177, Fairfield, Texas 75840. Robert attended Southwestern Assemblies of God University located in Waxahachie where he graduated in 1957.

He completed a second degree in 1967 from Wayland Baptist College located in Plainview, and in 1973 completed his Master’s Degree at Texas Tech University, located in Lubbock. He always had a thirst for knowledge and at one point thought that he might become a teacher. His love for people and preaching overrode that desire and he spent his life helping others as a minister with the Assemblies of God.

His early ministry years were spent as an evangelist, and in 1960 he began his pastoral ministry. The majority of his pastoral ministry was spent at First Assembly of God in Amarillo where he served for 21 years. He was then elected to serve as District Superintendent of the West Texas District Council of the Assemblies of God with headquarters in Lubbock, serving in this position for 21 years.

During his years of service to the West Texas District, he served on several boards including the Board of Regents at Southwestern Assemblies of God University, American Bible College, located in Phoenix, Arizona, and Pleasant Hills Children’s Home located near Fairfield, Texas. He “officially” retired in 2010. Since that time he pastored a church in Lubbock, authored two books, managed a personal online ministry, served as a counselor for an online ministry called Network 211, and taught a Sunday school class at Christ Church.

Most of his ministry was in West Texas. He and his wife, Ann moved to Benbrook in 2015 to be near their family. There is one thing about him that not many knew about.

At the age of 14 he competed in the junior division of NCAA gymnastics competition in Dallas and won a 1st place medal in Trampoline. That same year he also accepted Christ as his Savior. Bob loved to preach, golf, read and spend time with his family.

Since moving to Benbrook he completed two online courses in Hebrew. His thoughts about life are, “God always gives the best to those who leave the choice to Him”. “Only what’s done for Christ will last”.

“Success is knowing the will of God and doing it”. “Do your best every day because life is short”. “Don’t dwell on the bad or sad times.

Enjoy the happy times and savor every moment”. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Slaton and Marjorie Sherrill; and his sister, Anita Weaver and her husband, Larry. Survivors: He leaves his wife of 61 years, Ann; daughters, Lynette Slaton of Benbrook, Karen Shearrer and her husband, Kelly of Dallas; grandson, Dustin Phillips and his wife, Mari; and two great grandchildren, Clark and Victoria Phillips of Benbrook; sister, Linda Wilson and her husband, Dick of Topanga, California; many loving family members, and close friends.
