A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, he earned his MBA and CPA and practiced accounting in Miami for over 40 years. Bob sadly leaves behind his beloved clients, many of whom are multi-generational. Bob was a talented athlete and was instrumental in starting a successful community basketball program, of which he was very proud.

Although he played full court basketball for many years, he switched to golf in his 50’s at the urging of his wife and all his previous passion for basketball was then transferred to the game of golf, which he loved and enjoyed immensely. Bob is survived by a large and loving family that includes his mother, Charlotte (Misha) Schwartz, his father Paul (Joyce Bailey) Berney, his wife, Leslie Cassel, his son & daughter-in law, Michael & Hillary Cassel, who dearly loved their Bobba, his siblings – brother Steve (Nancy) Berney, sister Elizabeth Berney & step-brother David (Annie) Schwartz, his nephews Greg, Scott & Max Berney, and his niece Sarah Berney (Rye Kennedy). He was Step-Bob to Bradley (Robin), Jim (Mindy) and Tommy Cassel, Grand-Bob to Shepard, Seth (Amanda), Chira, Philip (Charlotte), Levi, and Mitchell Cassel, and even a Great-Grandbob!

He is also survived by the Stein side of his large and loving family; his mother-in-law, Rusty Gerson, his sisters-in-law, Aimee Richard) Fried, Wendy (Lance) Turner and Cathy (Rick) Rubenstein, nieces Rachel (Ronnie) Wexler and Sarah Stubins, and nephews Barry (Amy) Turner and Aaron Turner. He is also survived by two daughters from a prior marriage; Rachel Kohlbrenner & Lisa Berney, their husbands and his 3 grand-daughters, Abigail, Hannah & Shayna. Bob will be missed every day of our lives.

He always had a big smile and warm heart to greet us and a huge wingspan with which to embrace his loved ones. Bob had such an enthusiastic love of life, work and sports, but mostly he loved and was totally devoted to his family. We will have a huge void in our lives without our Bob.
