Robert L. Batdorf, 98, of the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, passed away May 1, 2019 at the Masonic Village. He was born March 24, 1921, in Halifax Township, Dauphin County, PA; a son of the late Oscar Newton and Mabel E. (Motter) Batdorf. On October 3, 1942, he married Ruth L. (Webb) Batdorf who preceded him in death March 20, 2017.

While in High School Robert played baseball and was active in the High School Band. An accomplished and self taught musician, he played several instruments, including Brass, Woodwind and Organ. He played in a dance band and several other bands.

Robert enjoyed listening to big band music and enjoyed playing games. During World War II Mr. Batdorf served in the U. S. Army Air Force from November 20, 1942 until his honorable discharge on December 5, 1945. During that time he earned a World War II Victory Medal, an European African Middle Eastern Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, and an American Theater Ribbon.

He was employed for 18 years by Fanny Farmers Candy Manufacturing in Harrisburg; then worked for Harrisburg Dairies as a milkman retiring after 30 years of service as a route supervisor, having been awarded a 19 year safe driver award. Surviving are two daughters Sandy Wynn of Harrisburg and Kay Dunwoody and her husband Scott of Mechanicsburg; seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a son Richard Batdorf.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 am on Friday May 10, 2019 at the Susquehanna Valley Evangelical Free Church, 6433 Union Deposit Road, Harrisburg, PA. A memorial service will follow immediately at 11 am at the church, with Pastor Matt Saxinger officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg, PA In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Masonic Village, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
