He peacefully departed his earthly journey on January 23, 2019 in Muscle Shoals, Alabama after a brief illness. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Bethel Colbert Missionary Baptist Church, Leighton, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, “Baby Girl” Tanya Newsome, his parents, three sisters: Rosie L. Freeman, Josephine Bankhead and Alfshteen Ricks, two brothers, Edward Newsome and Derrick Newsome. He leaves to cherish his memories: four sisters: Jeraldine Phillips of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Betty Tiggs of Tuscumbia, Alabama, Esther Horrison of Lima, Ohio and Wanda Goodloe of Florence, Alabama, two sisters in law: Athena Newsome of Nashville, Tennessee and Catherine Newsome of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, two aunts, Sylvia Burns of Sheffield, Alabama and Rosemary Meredith of Detroit, Michigan, one uncle, Percy L. Bates of Lima, Ohio, a devoted friend, James Howard and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
