Obituary for Robert “The Irishman” Shiels Robert “The Irishman” Shiels, 92, of Mentor, OH, passed away on Friday, September 28, 2018 at his home. He was born on August 8, 1926 in Ballymoney, Northern Ireland. Robert immigrated to Canada and then the United States in the early 1950s.

He met his wife Margaret at the Westside Irish American Club. After asking her to dance, the rest became history. Robert enjoyed playing soccer well into his forties and later became an avid golfer.

He played for many years at Lost Nation Golf Course and at Erie Shores in Madison until he was 91. Robert was a wonderful father, grandpa, great-grandpa and uncle who will be greatly missed by all. Robert is survived by his children, Myra Malesky, Bob Shiels, Kathy Trivette, Rose (Dave) Eyth, Mike (Liz) Shiels; his grandchildren, Shawna (Jeromie), Rosie (Dinko), Annie (Jon), Jimmy, Katie (Adam), Ryan, Joe, Meghan, Aidan, and Maryn; his great-grandchildren, Maks, Sean, Adriana, Liam, Jude, Jakson, Claire, and Owen; his sister Brenda Coyles; and many more nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Margaret Shiels of 47 years; and his siblings Myra, Joe, Ina, Celia, Rossie, Ivreen, Maude, and a brother who passed in infancy. Visitation will be held from 2-4pm & 6-8pm on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at Monreal Funeral Home, 35400 Curtis Blvd. , Eastlake.
