OBITUARY Robert W. Carney November 22, 1937 – December 2, 2018 Robert W. Carney, former Selectperson of Dartmouth, MA died on December 2, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Pauline (Gaudreau) Carney. They were married for 57 years.

He was born in New Bedford, MA, son of former Selectman Willian F. Carney, and Eunice (Spach) Carney and lived in Dartmouth all of his life. Robert was a graduate of Dartmouth High School and Swain School of Design. He was a self-employed Commercial Graphic Artist in Providence, Rhode Island, specializing in Photo Retouching.

He and his wife purchased a home in Dartmouth, built in 1830 and spent many years restoring this home that is currently the Captain Otis F. Thacher House B&B. He was a communicant of St. George Church, a recipient of the Marian Award Medal from the Diocese of Fall River, Chairman of St. George Church 30-Week Club, and Treasurer of St. Vincent DePaul Society. Robert loved his family and the Dartmouth Community.

He was a Town Meeting Member, Vice-President of Bristol County Selectperson Association, Veteran’s Advisory Board Member, Dartmouth Representation to SRPEDD, Dartmouth Agricultural Trust Council, Chairman of Paskamansett Landing Committee, Assistant Scout Master, Boy Scouts of America, volunteer Dartmouth Children’s Museum, Board of Directors, Dartmouth Youth Activities, Board of Directors Dartmouth Youth Hockey, Co-founder of Dartmouth Girls Basketball League, Board of Directors Council on Aging, President of Little Beach Association, Board of Directors of the RI Ad Club, and Non-Commissioned Officer of the Massachusetts National Guard. Survivors include his widow, a son William R. Carney and daughter-in-law Angela D. Carney of Medway, MA, daughter Beth C. Shannon and son-in-law Kenneth Shannon of East Falmouth, MA, daughter Mary Ellen Barlow of Dartmouth, four beloved grandsons, John Paul Tocci, Benjamin W. Carney, Ethan R. Carney and Liam Barlow, sister Carol C. Veiga, and brother-in-law Joseph F. Veiga of Dartmouth, brother Daniel N. Carney and sister-in-law Mary Carney of Milton, MA. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. George Church, 12 Highland Ave.

in Westport at 10:00am on Thursday, December 6, 2018. Following the Mass, family and friends are welcome to attend a Celebration of Bob’s Life at Rachel’s Lakeside, 950 State Rd. in Dartmouth, MA.
