Roger Dale Johnston, 74, of Ringgold, Georgia passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2019 following an extended illness. Born in Calhoun, Georgia, on August 22, 1944, he is a lifelong resident of the North Georgia area and is a member of the Baptist Church. Roger served in the U.S. Navy nine years and was in the Dominican Republic crisis aboard the USS Amphion.

After serving his country he worked at the Army Ammunition Plant and retired from Flying J Pilot Transportation. Roger was an avid sportsman including fishing trips. He greatly enjoyed his metal detecting hobby of civil war relics.

His passion was Nascar racing. Roger supported and volunteered for 25 years with Ronnie Johnson Dirt Tract Racing Team. He was preceded in death by his father, George Johnston; mother, Kathleen Waddell Coggins; and step-father, Jesse Coggins.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Tonyia Wilson Johnston of Ringgold, GA. Finally, he leaves behind his beloved dog Freckles and Siamese cat, Sammy. Private graveside services will be held Friday March 29, 2019 at the Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home Wallis-Stewart Chapel Ringgold, Georgia.
