Roland Henry Staker March 13, 1924 – May 01, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Roland Henry Staker, 95, of Tama, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Paul Rendall officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo.

Visitation will be held Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 10:00 AM until service time at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home. Roland was born on March 13, 1924, near Traer, Iowa, the son of William and Edith (Nessler) Staker. On July 11, 1943, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Schelker in Rhodes, Iowa.

Roland served his country in the U.S. Navy departing on December 31, 1943. During World War II, he was stationed on the Island of Saipan in the Pacific. After his military was completed, he farmed near State Center, Montour and Toledo until the early 1960’s.

In 1962, Roland designed and built the ever popular Family Tee Miniature Golf Course in Toledo. Until his retirement, he worked for the Farm Service Co. in Toledo. Roland had the natural skill of creative carpentry and painting.

He was everyone’s handyman. In 1957, Roland was ordained as a Deacon in the Community of Christ Church. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, American Legion, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Survivors include three sons, Gene (Sue) Staker of West Des Moines, Daryl (Kathy) Staker of Tama, and Randy (Barb) Staker of Cocoa Beach, FL; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one brother, Marvin (Verona) Staker of Traer; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife of seventy five years, Lorraine on November 9, 2018; two brothers, LeMoine Staker and Gilmar in childhood; and two sisters, Lucille Beck and Darlene in infancy. Roland will be missed by his family, friends and all those who experienced his kind, honest and loving nature.

Memorials may be directed to the Tama County Humane Society.
