Roland J. (Robie) Robichaud age 87 died July 27, 2018 at Hospice House in Concord New Hampshire after a period of declining health. Roland was born in Franklin to Wildie and Louise (Vigneault) Robichaud and was a lifelong resident, moving to Tilton in 2003. A graduate of Franklin High School class of 1948 he spent three years working in Keegan Hardware Store and serving in the National Guard.
He served four years in the US Air Force in the Korean Conflict, and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He then attended Plymouth State College and graduated in 1959 with a degree in education. Roland’s teaching career began at Sanbornton Central School followed by eighteen years as a teacher and coach at Belmont High School.
He retired from teaching and went to work in human services with Twin Rivers Support Service; an agency of Central NH Mental Health services until his retirement at age sixty five. He was a parishioner of St. Paul’s Church and was a life member of the Knights of Columbus 4th degree. He belonged to the NH Retired Teachers Association and the American Legion Post #49 of Tilton for over 40 years.
Roland was an avid athlete. He played tennis (his greatest love), swam, skied, golfed and bicycled. He won various medals in the Granite State Senior Games.
He also enjoyed woodworking and general handyman projects. He was an ardent follower of his grandchildren’s school and sports programs. He umpired Little League, coached Babe Ruth and gave numerous tennis lessons.
Roland is survived by his wonderful wife of sixty one years, Pauline (Belair) Robichaud of Tilton, two sons, Kenneth and his wife Karen of Canterbury and Wayne and his wife Kim of Northfield, four grandchildren: Ashley Shortt, Ryan Robichaud, Zachary Robichaud and Lucas Robichaud, two great grandchildren: Danielle and Dylan Shortt. He has two brothers: Richard of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Ronald of Tilton. He was predeceased by a brother Maurice (Joe) and three sisters: Jean Corneau, Genevieve Dulac and Anne Proulx.
Calling hours will be from 5-8 Thursday 8/2 at the Thibault-Neun Funeral Home 143 Franklin St., Franklin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul’s Church, Franklin at 11 AM on Friday, Aug. 3rd followed by interment at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
