OBITUARY Ronald Eugene Gibson November 13, 1938 – September 15, 2018 Ronald Eugene Gibson of BURNET, TX Ronald was called home to be with the lord 9/15/18 after a lengthy illness. Ronald was born in Iowa City, Iowa 11/13/1938 to Hayes S & Clare Dale Brooks Gibson. He was a 1957 graduate of Shenandoah High School.

He joined the Iowa National Guard 10/1/1955. He then became Active Duty in the Army 3/11/1959. He Commissioned 11/21/1966.

During his tenure in the Army he achieved the rank of Captain 3/16/1972. He was stationed in German from 8/3/1960 thru 7/17/1963, Korea from 11/23/1965 to 7/5/1967, Vietnam 6/21/1968 thru 6/21/1969 & 8/13/1970 thru 5/11/1971. While in the Army Ronald received four Bronze stars 11/1968, 6/1969, 11/20/1970 & 2/28/1971.

He received a letter of Commendation 5/17/1969. He received 2 ARCOM-GCMDL, NDSM EXP (M60mg), Armed Forces Expeditionary, 3 Cross of Gallantry/Palm Medals while in Korea, Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Bronze Star 1 Silver, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Mortal Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantry Badge; Expert M-14rifle & Good Conduct Medal (1st award). Some awards may have been added as there are so many.

He retired Enlisted Retirement 6/30/1979 & Captain of the Army 6/17/1989. He was employed by NASA after his retirement as a procurement specialist of the space shuttle program for about 5 years before totally retiring. Ronald leaves a son Phillip Lee Gibson & his wife Jeanie Gibson, granddaughter Jennifer Anderson of Burnet, TX, great grandson Darius Johnson of SanMarcos, TX, granddaughter Britni Elizabeth Nash of Franklin, WV & partner Michael Warner, brothers Ed Gibson & wife Charlotte Gibson of Shenandoah, IA, George Gibson & Connie Gibson of Shenandoah, IA.

Son-In-Law Frank Mahaffey of Oakdale, TN, granddaughters Brooke & Cheyenne Mahaffey. He was proceeded in death by his wife Elizabeth Jane Vaugh Gibson 10/26/1983 & his daughter Sandra Jean Gibson Mahaffey 6/20/2016, father Hayes Gibson, mother Clare Brooks Gibson, Dela Ruth Gibson, Clara D Gibson, Luann Gibson, Donnie Gibson, Harlan Gibson. Visitation will be Thursday 9/20/18 from 5p -7p at Clements-Wilcox 306 E Polk Street, Burnet, TX 512-756-2222.

The service will be at Clements Wilcox Friday 9/21/18 at 10a. Ronald will be laid to rest alongside his wife Elizabeth Jane & their daughter Sandra Jean at Copperas Cove Commentary, Copperas Cove, TX Friday 9/21/18 2p with military honors. In lieu of flowers Phillip has requested you donate to your local Wounded Warriors.
