Obituary for Ronald Gene Whitehorn Print Ronald Gene Whitehorn, age 82, passed away in Fair Oaks, California on January 22nd, 2019. He was born on September 15th 1936 in Columbus, Indiana as the first child of Gene and Jean Whitehorn. Ron, or Ronnie as known by his family and friends, was an outstanding athlete at Columbus High School; where he lettered in football, basketball and track.
Attending Ball State University in Muncie Indiana, he pledged Theta Chi fraternity and graduated in 1959, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. It was prior to the start of his senior year, when fate intervened, and he began dating a young woman whom he had known since the 6th grade – Sue Carol Stonecipher. Ron and Sue were married in July 1959.
Ron spent 46 years in industrial sales, rising to the level of Vice President with Sacramento Industrial Supply in the 1970’s. He was a skillful and confident salesman, with uncompromising integrity. He often remarked “I can sell snow to an Eskimo, but only if he needed it”.
Never really losing his zest for sales, he moved out of management and spent the last portion of his professional career in outside sales with Valley Rubber and Gasket, working with clients throughout Northern and Central California, as well as Nevada. Ron was also a lifetime member of the Carmichael Elks Lodge. During retirement, he honed his investment talents, traveled with Sue and realized his long-time interest as an amateur horticulturist.
Ron is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Sue; son Michael and his wife Vallerie; daughter Kerri Morgan and grandchildren Ron, Meaghan, Joshua and Judith. A memorial of Ron’s life will be held on February 9, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the Carmichael Elks Club, 5631 Cypress Avenue, Carmichael CA 95608.
