Ronald’s Obituary Ronald Glen Rider, Age 73, passed away the morning of May 3, 2019 with his family at his side. Ronald was a graduate of Vidrine High School and honorably served our country in the United Sates Navy from 1967-1969 during the Vietnam War. He worked for the Lake Charles Department of Public Works and the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, retiring as Director of Public Works in 1998. He was very passionate about all things golf and was known to have the best greens in town. He had a great impact on the golfing community of Lake Charles. In addition to his golfing, Ron was a true Louisiana Sportsman enjoying hunting and fishing.

He was also an avid McNeese sports fan, rooting for all the various teams that McNeese fielded. Ron was also a huge Astros fan, dating back to the time when they were known as the Colt 45’s. Ron never met a stranger, especially if they spoke Cajun French.

However, his most cherished times were spent with family. He loved being with his grandchildren, taking them to Astros games and fishing with them in the ponds at Pine Shadows. Ron was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Viola Guillory Rider; siblings, Carlwin Rider, Susan Rider Fontenot, and Michael Rider; best friend, Alan Lyles and faithful four-legged companions, Hahn and Elvis.
