Ronald “Rab” Scaletta passed away on Monday, July 16, 2018, at home after a prolonged struggle with cancer and lung disease. He was 79 years old. Ron was born on December 25, 1938 in Cumberland, Maryland to Anthony “Bud” and Helen (Sachs) Scaletta.

Ron was married to Ruth (Logsdon) Scaletta, his wife of nearly 59 years. Ron was a lifelong brace beagler and member of the Savannah River Valley, Hagerstown and Allegheny Beagle Clubs. He spent his life outdoors; whether it was hunting, fishing, shooting or running dogs.

After high school, Ron served in the United States Air Force and started his career in the mail room at Weinschel Engineering. He worked his way up, eventually serving as president of the company. After leaving Weinschel, he put his creative machining talents to work as a skilled gunsmith, bringing his ideas to life through extensive experimentation.

Ron spent the later part of his career as an entrepreneur in various fields, particularly those that kept him close to his two passions, guns and dogs. Ron is survived by his wife, Ruth, and children Gregory (Charlene Stanley) Scaletta, Diane (David) Hoffman, Douglas (Melissa) Scaletta and Beth (Jason) Troiano; grandchildren Alan (Kristin) Hoffman, Amy (Nicholas) Palazzo, Brandon (Lacey) Scaletta, Emily Scaletta, Benjamin Scaletta, Jack Troiano, Martha Troiano and Libby Troiano; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Brittney Scaletta; parents Bud and Helen Scaletta; and brothers Donald and John Scaletta.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Sunday, July 22 at Beggs Funeral Home in Lincolnton, Georgia and again at 12, noon on Monday, July 23 for a Funeral Mass at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Thomson, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Affinis Hospice of Augusta or Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Please sign the guestbook and send condolences @ www.
