Lara, 99, of Lompoc, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, February 26, 2019. She was born September 19, 1919, in Durango, Mexico, to Jesus and Juanita Garcia. Rose came to the US with her family in 1921.
Rose met her husband, the love of her life, Alfred, and they were married 64 years before his passing in 2006. Rose and Al had two children, Freddie and Elsie. She always took great pride as a mother and wife.
During their life together they loved to spend time traveling the world. Their favorite places were Washington DC, Mexico City, Canada and the northern East Coast. She enjoyed going to La Purisima Church, gardening (she received many City Beautification Awards), cooking and loved watching sports, especially when her grandchildren and great grandchildren were playing.
She loved them so much. She always had food prepared for them when they came to visit. Everyone’s favorites were her tamales and chorizo and papas enchiladas.
Rose’s grandkids looked forward to the traditional slumber party at Grandma’s and Grandpa’s with all their cousins on Christmas Eve, which will always be near and dear to their hearts. Holidays were her favorite time of the year as it brought the whole family together. Rose left a legacy of faith and love that will last us a lifetime.
Rose is survived by Elsie (Virgil) Cortez, sisters Helen Martinez and Jennie Galindo, brothers Joe and Frank Garcia, daughter-in-law Gayla Lara, grandchildren Tania (Joe) Lara, Loree (Joe) Avila, Richie Terrones, Julie (Brad) Crandall, Michael Terrones, Freddie Lara, Virgil (Yoli) Cortez II, Jessica Lara, Gabe Lara (Teresa), great grandchildren Zack Terrones, Sarah (Miguel) Medina, Brianna Terrones, Alexandria Warren, Cooper Terrones, Haley Crandall (Greg), Hunter, Grant, Diego, Nico and Luke Terrones, Gabriel Jr., Eric, Lily, and Alex Lara, and Camila Rose Flores, great-greatgrandchildren Julianna Rose, Gabriella, Vida Godinez, Jace, Ryker, and Tinley Rose Medina, Makenzie Rose Terrones, Bryce and Clayton Herrera, as well as many nieces and nephews. Rose was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Zepharino, Gilbert, Leon, Barney, Mike, Jess Garcia, Mary Rodriquez and Nellie Aguliar, son Freddie Lara, great grandson Mikey Terrones, great granddaughter Alexis Lara and grandsons Gibby and David Terrones. Services will be held Thursday March 7, 11:30, at La Purisima Catholic Church, 213 W Olive Ave.
, burial services will follow at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery, 600 South C Street.
