Rose Vartanoush (Peligian) Derderian, 98, of Indian Orchard, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018 at the Baystate Medical Center. Born in Giligia, Armenia on Sept.

15, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Sarkis & Vartenie (Bourgoujian) Peligian. She lived briefly in Massena, NY, grew up in Providence, RI where she was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, and lived in Indian Orchard since 1939.

Rose worked as an accounting clerk for the former Cromwell, Alamac and Mayfair Mills in Indian Orchard. She was a member of St. Gregory’s Armenian Apostolic Church in Indian Orchard. Rose was a former member of the Armenian Relief Society, and served for 25 years on the Indian Orchard Citizens’ Council.

Rose was recognized by the State House of Representatives for her 25 years of service including a member of the Council Board of Directors. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking, reading, crocheting and knitting. She was the wife of the late Harry Derderian and sister of the late Peter Peligian, Alexander Peligian and Zaroohie Koshgarian.

She is survived by a son, Harry Derderian, Jr. (Margo) of Farmington Hills, Michigan, a daughter, Marion Merigian (Mike) of Indian Orchard, as well as three grandchildren, Kristen (David) Shahrigian, Kara (Alex) Sarafian and Armen (Talin) Derderian, nine great-grandchildren, Armen, Taleen, Aram and Tamar Shahrigian, Ani and Alina Sarafian, Sevana, Daron and Datev Derderian, and her protector, Kool. Rose’s family would like to thank Dr. LaChance and the staff at Baystate Medical Center, Mass Mutual 7th floor and Daly 6A floor, as well as the staff at the Life Care of Wilbraham for their wonderful care. A Calling Hour will be held on Tuesday, Oct.

30, from 10am-11am at St. Gregory Armenian Church, 135 Goodwin St., Indian Orchard with a Funeral Service to follow in the church at 11am. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Springfield. Donations in Rose’s memory may to the church.
