Obituary for Rosemarie Cecile Morgan-Hinds (Morgan) Our parents give us life. Our grandparents give us a sense of who we are and where we came from this month, as we said goodbye to my “Auntie”. It hit me how incredibly lucky I have been to have my lovely grandmother with me for 18 years.
Not only with me, but an integral, close part of my life It is rare for a grandparent-grandchild relationship to be so essential and long- lasting, but then, “Auntie” was that exceptional kind of person every single day of her life. My grandmother has always shown interest in me and my baby sister Lena’s life. She is always the one I can call to talk to.
She is always saying “Nyilah go to school and become something in life”. My grandmother was an incredible matriarch really, she was the regal leader in our family. She cooked my favorite meals and took care of Lena whenever we spent time with her in New York.
She was always present, part of our lives in such a tangible way. As a child I always looked forward to going to New York just to be with my grandmother, I felt lucky. From our grandparents, we learn where we come from, we learn our history, we learn who we are.
What made my grandmother special and wonderful is her elegance. She always looked the picture of perfection and grace. She knew everyone at her church and work.
She always talked about church services and what she enjoyed most. She always spoke about her job that she took pride in caring for the elderly population. She always talked about working with her good friend Theresa stating how good things are when they are working on the same floor.
Those two were truly Thelma and Louise. Even better, no one ever had a bad word to say about my grandmother. She loved deeply and fully, all of us.
My lovely grandmother Rosemarie Cecile Morgan known to all as “Cecile” or “Rose” or “Rosie” was born in Kingston, Jamaica of the West Indies on the third day of September nineteen hundred and fifty nine to Lena Brown and the late Joseph Morgan. Rosemarie attended Shortwood Practicing Primary and then on to Burlington High School. Shortly thereafter she went to a trade institute to become a Seamstress.
She worked in Jamaica sewing clothes for friends and families along with other jobs until she migrated to the United States in nineteen ninety-three with her several of her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Rosemarie just fit right in the American society, she became a Nursing Assistant and she started her career. She began working for the Hebrew Home for several years.
Then on to St. Joseph Nursing Home where she works until November of 2018. Rosemarie met the late and “The Great” Mr. Edward Hinds in the year two thousand they were both smitten by each other. By the year two thousand and two on April 6th they both joined together in sacred matrimony.
She accepted the Lord and got baptized at the Calvary Gospel Assembly shortly thereafter. Edward was the love of Rosie’s life, he made her happy. They then became inseparable.
You would not see one without the other. Those two was the true Bonnie and Claude. They both enjoyed life to the fullest.
They went on cruises across the world and was very involved in the church. Rosemarie fought breast cancer since 2007. Which went into remission several times.
In 2018 “the cancer” metastasized made her transition just two days after her loving husband Edward Hinds affectionately known as “dada” passed away. Rosemarie left her one and only daughter -Kimisha; granddaughters, Nyilah and Lena; mother, -Mrs. Lena Taylor; step daughters,Vangie, Leona, Ingrid, Brenda, Odette Jasset and Stacy; seven sisters, six brothers, nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends to mourn her lost.
